Drexel Hill, PA –State Senator Tom McGarrigle (R-26) today announced the awarding of state grants to the Ridley and Upper Darby school districts to purchase school safety equipment.
The state Office of Safe Schools awarded Ridley School District $24,855 for the purchase of security cameras and Upper Darby School District $14,060 for cameras, radios and shoulder microphones, the senator said.
“The equipment purchased with these grants will help create a physical environment that fosters the safety and well-being of students and staff,” McGarrigle said. “It’s not simply a matter of security. A safe school promotes a climate of greater productivity and learning.”
The purpose of the Safe Schools Initiative Targeted Grant for Equipment is to assist school entities by providing funding for equipment under their comprehensive safe school plans.
The Office for Safe Schools coordinates school safety and security programs, collection of the annual school violence statistics, coordination of antiviolence efforts, and development of policies and strategies to combat school violence.
