Today: McGarrigle to Discuss Meeting with Superintendents on School Safety Improvements

Harrisburg – Senator Tom McGarrigle (R-26) will hold a news conference today (Feb. 21) following his meeting with area superintendents to discuss his plans to increase school safety.

The news conference will be held at 11 a.m. at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit, 200 Yale Avenue in Morton (Parking in Rear).

“We were all shocked and saddened by the images out of Florida last week. It’s become clear that people who intend to harm others have identified schools as targets. We cannot allow such heinous acts of violence to continue. The purpose of this meeting is to gather input from school administrators to establish best practices that can make our schools safer,” McGarrigle said.

Senator McGarrigle is drafting legislation to mandate new and expanded safety protocols, and will be seeking state dollars to pay for their implementation so that the financial burden does not fall on already-stretched district budgets.
