Bill-Signing Ceremony for McGarrigle Bill Allowing Disability License Plates for Parents of Disabled Adults

Legislation I sponsored allowing parents or guardians with adult children in their care to receive disability license plates will be signed into law by Gov. Tom Wolf on Monday.

My office has been working with a mother in our district seeking a disability license plate for her vehicle as she is the primary caretaker for her adult son. Her son is 21 and lives with blindness, autism and cerebral palsy. Because her son is an adult, PennDOT refused to provide the disability plate.

Senate Bill 983 will provide access to vehicle disability license plates to parents, including adoptive parents or foster parents, of adult children in their care who qualify for a disability license plate.

Attending the ceremony will be a mother and adult daughter living with disabilities, as well as advocates from The ARC of Delaware County and Values into Action. I’ll bring you photos and an update in my next e-newsletter.

Senior Expo on October 20 at the Lazaretto Ballroom in Tinicum Township

Senator McGarrigle and State Representative Nick Miccarelli will be hosting a Senior Expo on October 20 at the Lazaretto Ballroom in Tinicum Township.

Please join us at our Senior Citizen Expo. Many exhibitors will be on hand to offer useful information for seniors and their families. It promises to be an educational and exciting event. This is a free event with health screenings, door prizes, refreshments, and much more.

Identity Theft Fair October 22

State Senator Thomas J. McGarrigle and State Representative Jamie Santora are hosting an Identity Theft Fair on Saturday October 22, 2016, from 9 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at the Garretford-Drexel Hill Fire Company (Parking lot across the street) 323 Edmonds Ave, Drexel Hill, PA 19026.

There will be information about Identity Theft Prevention and an Industrial Shredder on site. The industrial shredder is there to allow you to obliterate any documents that contain personal information, including birth dates, Social Security numbers, bank account information and credit card numbers. Your documents get shredded safely and securely.

Hope to see you there!

SEPTA Senior Key Photo Day November 2

I’m hosting a SEPTA Senior Key Photo Day on November 2 with State Representative Jamie Santora.

The event will be held from 10 a .m. to 4 p.m. at my district office, 5037 Township Line Road (Corner of Township Line Road & Dermond Road).

As SEPTA prepares to introduce its new, modern fare payment and collection system – SEPTA Key – we want to assure seniors, age 65 years or older, that they will be able to continue to ride free at all times on all SEPTA transit services (bus, Market-Frankford Line, Broad Street Line, trolley and the Norristown High Speed Line). Regional Rail fares for seniors will continue to be $1 for rides within Pennsylvania.

Senior riders who do not want to use their PA Driver’s License or state-issued ID card can register and have their picture taken for the new, free SEPTA Key Senior ID card. SEPTA KEY Cards will be mailed at a later date. A photograph is needed to receive the SEPTA KEY CARD.

Please contact my office at 610-853-4100 to schedule an appointment ASAP.
