No More Vehicle Registration Stickers in 2017
Beginning December 31, PennDOT will no longer issue vehicle registration stickers. While stickers will no longer be required, you will still need to renew your vehicle registration annually and present the card when requested by police and at safety inspections.
Police will be able to verify registration electronically. Eliminating the stickers is expected to save taxpayers more than $1 million each year. You can find more information on this change here.
State Senator Tom McGarrigle and State Representative Jamie Santora host a SEPTA Senior Key Photo Day at the Senator's Drexel Hill District Office on November 2.
Applications Being Accepted for Governorís Awards for Environmental Excellence
The Department of Environmental Protection is now accepting applications for the 2017 Governorís Awards for Environmental Excellence.
The deadline for applications is January 3. Individuals and organizations are invited to apply for the 2017 awards for projects completed between August 1, 2015, and July 31, 2016.
The awards are open to all individuals, whether a project leader or participant, and to all nonprofits, businesses, farms, government agencies, and educational institutions. Individuals may also nominate someone they know.
Projects are evaluated on the basis of nine criteria: degree of environmental protection, public service, pollution prevention, climate change, sustainability, partnership, economic impact, innovative technology, and environmental education and outreach. A project doesnít need to meet all criteria to merit an award. More information and applications can be found here.
Congratulations to New and Departing Staff Members
Itís with sadness and pride that I bid farewell to Alex Charlton, my former Chief of Staff, on being elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to serve the 165th Legislative District. I wish Alex well and look forward to working with him in the legislature.
Iím pleased to announce Michael Rader as my new Chief of Staff. Mike served as the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee where he oversaw committee operations, as well as working on energy and environmental issues with both sides of the aisle to effect policy. He was instrumental in major reform measures and energy industry job creation. Mike also sits on the board of directors of the Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation, serves as President of the Gordon Borough Council, located in Schuylkill County, and has prior business experience.
Mike brings top tier experience in the Capitol to my team. Understanding the issues that affect our local communities, his economic development background and his skill in Harrisburg will be an asset to the 26th District.
Finally, Iíve selected longtime aide Nick Cocco to serve as our District Director to oversee operations in the 26th Senatorial District with offices in Drexel Hill and Berwyn, including constituent services, outreach, communications, events and special projects.
